Mindfulness in Schools: Supporting Wellbeing, Learning, and Resilience
As a Mindfulness Trainer in Education, I believe in a whole-school approach to wellbeing. This means supporting not only students, but also teachers and school staff, and embedding mindfulness within the wider school culture.
Mindfulness in schools supports emotional regulation, focus, resilience, and learning readiness — creating environments where both students and educators can thrive.
In this article, I share my approach to facilitating mindfulness sessions in school settings, beginning with engaging, child-friendly programmes for students.
Mindfulness Sessions for Children in Schools
I deliver mindfulness sessions for children in classroom settings, as one-off workshops or as part of a structured programme. These sessions can be offered:
- During school hours
- As after-school clubs
- As part of summer school programmes
All sessions are designed to nurture children’s mental and emotional wellbeing, while also supporting focus, calm, and learning for improved academic performance. Sessions are delivered in a fun, creative, and age-appropriate way — classes that children genuinely enjoy and look forward to.
6-Week Mindfulness Course for Children
The 6-week Mindfulness for Children course is based on Mindfulness in Education (MiE) programmes and is accredited by the EFT & Mindfulness Centre.
Courses can be delivered in schools:
- As part of the curriculum
- As an after-school programme
- Within summer school schedules
Sessions are grounded in neuroscience and delivered through interactive and experiential activities. Children receive a home practice book to support integration into daily life, and those who complete the course receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Age Groups
- Children aged 5–11 years
- Young people aged 12–17 years

Mindfulness Workshops for Primary & Secondary Students
In addition to the 6-week course, I offer one-off mindfulness workshops for primary and secondary students.
These workshops are particularly suitable for:
- Mental Health Awareness Weeks
- Wellbeing or transition days
- Personal and social development sessions
Depending on the age group, sessions may include arts and crafts, breathing exercises, mindful movement, role play, and reflective discussion. Children learn how to calm their minds, regulate emotions, and feel more connected to themselves and others.
Mindfulness for Exam Stress Workshops
I offer two exam-focused mindfulness workshops:
- One for Year 6 students
- One for secondary school students
These workshops teach practical tools to:
- Improve focus and concentration
- Navigate exam stress and academic pressure
- Manage school transitions and decision-making
Students learn skills that build self-confidence, emotional regulation, and a growth mindset — supporting both wellbeing and academic performance.
Tailored Support for Schools
In addition to the above courses and workshops, I offer consultations to discuss the specific needs of your school community. Together, we can co-create a mindfulness offering that best supports your students and staff.

Supporting Teacher & Staff Wellbeing
While it is essential to equip students with emotional and self-regulation skills, the wellbeing of teachers and support staff is equally important — not only for student outcomes, but also for staff retention, school culture, and overall wellbeing.
I facilitate:
- One-off mindfulness workshops for teachers
- The 6-week Mindfulness for Adults course, adapted for school settings
These offerings support educators to manage stress, prevent burnout, and cultivate presence — skills that naturally ripple into the classroom.

One-Off Mindfulness Workshops for Teachers
These workshops are ideal for:
- Start-of-year staff training days
- Professional development sessions
They are designed with two intentions:
- To help teachers experience the benefits of mindfulness for their own wellbeing
- To share simple practices that can be integrated into classrooms and lesson plans

Research & Evidence
Mindfulness in education is supported by a growing body of research.
The Mental Health Foundation states that:
“Mindfulness practice in schools enables children to recognise and overcome the many ways in which we tend to get caught up in rumination, distraction and resistance. It reveals the inherent ability of the mind and body to rebalance and sustain wellbeing.”
(Mental Health Foundation, 2011)

A Personal Note
Teaching mindfulness to children, educators, and caregivers is something I am deeply passionate about. I believe mindfulness is a core life skill — one that helps children manage emotions and worries, develop focus and calm, build confidence, and cultivate kindness and compassion.
These skills support children not only at school, but throughout life.
